Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Review (Xbox One)

In Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Blazkowicz and his friends are back again to revolt against the evil villain Frau Engel and the rest of the Nazis regiment.  Players start out crippled and broken after the injuries that Blazkowicz suffered at the end of The New Order.  The game then goes into flashbacks, showing his rough childhood and a brutal scene with his sadistic father.  It sets the mood and tone well for what’s to come in The New Colossus.  It’s a game that doesn’t pull any punches, nor does it sway from controversial subject matter.  It hits on how dark and cold humanity can be at its worst.     The campaign spans across a variety of areas.  Players will explore Roswell in an alternate reality, visit the…

Destiny 2 (PC) – Was the Wait Worth It?

While console gamers have been enjoying Destiny 2 for close to 2 months now, it has just launched for the PC.  The delay was taken with great thought and consideration by Bungie.  This was obviously a huge decision, but it was done to ensure the best possible experience for PC gamers.  Expectations were set extremely high for this release and it is a outstanding experience with incredible visuals. The controls have been fine tuned for the precision of a keyboard (custom key mapping) and mouse support.  The PC version also has 21:9 monitor support and is capable of displaying a resolution up to 3840×2160 that includes a uncapped frame rate.  There is an impressive amount of graphical options to tweak to your liking, as well as Low,…

A Hat in Time Review (PC)

3D platformers are making a comeback this year and Gears for Breakfast has introduced gamers to a new entry in this genre called A Hat in Time.  The passion behind the team for games from this era is abundantly clear and they have created an incredible 3D platforming experience that is both new and a blast from the past.     The story in A Hat in Time is cartoonish and no doubt silly, but its a great fit for the look and feel of the game.  It’s what one might expect from a outlandish 3D platformer.  It’s nice to not have a super serious plot where there has to be edgy material and content.  The team behind it are big fans of the GameCube and…

Rogue Trooper Redux Review (Nintendo Switch)

The original Rogue Trooper launched in 2006 by Rebellion Developments. Fast forward 11 years later and we now have a new version sporting a fresh coat of HD paint. The remaster also includes new special effects, dynamic lighting and improved gameplay mechanics. Rogue Trooper Redux is a third-person shooter that will certainly take you back. Even with the updated visuals and assets, the adventure here is a nostalgic one for retro gamers. This is a positive note from my perspective, as it was heavy reminiscent of the PS2 and original Xbox era. It seems clear to me at least, that Rebellion Developments were really ahead of their time with the cover based tactical shooter genre. It is set on the planet Nu-Earth which now has…

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Review (PS4 Pro)

Middle-earth: Shadow of War has landed and is arguably one of the most anticipated sequels this year.  In the first title, Shadow of Mordor, players took on the role of Talion.  His family was murdered right in front of him, just before Sauron took his life as well.  The Elven wraith Celebrimbor resurrected the ranger, making them as one.  From here, Tailon was determined for swift vengeance.  While players were able to square off against Sauron in Shadow of Mordor,  Tailon was only able to take down Sauron’s physical form.  He was not able to rid him from this world just yet.  Now Tailon is looking to forge a new ring and destroy Sauron once and for all.  This is where Shadow of War begins.…

Wulverblade Review (Nintendo Switch)

Wulverblade is a gorgeous 2D brawler by Darkwind Media.  It hearkens back to the retro beat ‘em up titles like Streets of Rage, Final Fight and Golden Axe.  It has some impressive visuals and carries that old school difficulty along with it. The game consists of 8 challenging stages.  It can be tackled solo or with a friend through 2 player co-op.  The levels are bursting with color and vibrant visuals.  It’s as if a comic book has come to life with beautifully animated graphics.  It looks and runs phenomenally on the Nintendo Switch; and I couldn’t imagine a better suited platform to play Wulverblade on.  You will hack and slash your way through tough, determined enemies.  Blood and limbs will fly in spectacular fashion as…

WRC 7 Review (Xbox One)

The racing genre has absolutely exploded recently with many high quality game releases.  Players are certainly not left wanting in this sector.  For rally fans, WRC 7 is out now and offers some impressive, chaotic off road action.  It’s time to trade in those Ferrari keys for a fire spewing Fiesta on roids.  The developer Kylotonn is certainly not new to the World Rally Championships, but can they stand up against such fierce competition this year? If you played WRC 6, you’ll notice some similarities here.  The menus and overall layout look to be a little recycled.  You’ll find some of the same finicky rules in place too, such as the sometimes harsh “off track” penalties (deducting close to 10 seconds in some cases).  As players…

Ruiner Review (PS4 Pro)

Ruiner is a brutally fast and difficult twin stick shooter developed by Reikon Games.  Hardcore games seem to be the craze right now and this one is certainly no pushover.  It also serves up that higher than normal difficulty in a fair manner. Once you master the tools provided,  you come out victorious and the feeling that comes with each accomplishment in this frantic shooter is fantastic.  Making the gameplay challenging doesn’t guarantee you a great game though; luckily Ruiner has much more behind it.     The cyberpunk world and characters in Ruiner are soaked in futuristic and sci-fi tones.  The way Reikon Games focuses on the color red and muted neon lights is a perfect fit for the game and well implemented against…

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Review (Xbox One)

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is the latest expansion from Arkane Studios.  It tells story of one of the game’s most secretive and interesting characters.  Gamers will play the role of Billie Lurk who was first seen in the original Dishonored series DLC and then in Dishonored 2.  It takes place months after the sequel where players will find themselves at Karnaca.  This is where Daud is located, known as both her mentor and a lethal assassin.  As the title suggest, you ‘ll be in charge of pinpointing where the powerful demigod known as the Outsider is presiding, so you can put an end to his reign of feverish chaos.     For a little back story for players unfamiliar with the Outsider, he has…

Project Cars 2 Review (PS4 Pro)

Racing enthusiasts are living in a fantastic time as we are treated with an incredible selection of racing titles, with the latest being Project Cars 2.  This is a truly impressive sequel that didn’t just implement small improvements here and there.  Everything you can possibly imagine has been vastly expanded upon.  There is a tremendous amount of new content, including an unbelievable track selection, a fantastic dynamic weather and day cycle, plus a serious overhaul in the controls department whether you are racing via a gamepad or wheel.     Slightly Mad Studios listened to the feedback from players and really dug deep to deliver a phenomenal sequel.  Many gamers were not a huge fan of the first game’s controls.  They did admittedly take some…
