Party Planet Review (Nintendo Switch)

Party Planet Review (Nintendo Switch)

Mastiff and developer Teyon are bringing a new game called Party Planet to the Nintendo Switch that takes advantage of one of the system’s largest strengths.  I am referring to local cooperative play on the go.  Being able to play these mini games wherever you like and taking the fun wherever you may be headed to cannot be overstated.  This is no doubt the driving force behind the immense popularity of the Switch and makes Party Planet that much more entertaining for any group activities and family gatherings.     We received Party Planet the day before Thanksgiving.  My wife and I played through all 30 mini-games numerous times and had an absolute blast.  A good amount of screams and trash talking took place and…

Rocket League Review (Nintendo Switch)

Rocket League Review (Nintendo Switch)

Rocket League exploded once it was released on the gaming scene two years ago and it’s momentum is just as strong today.  I remember watching a Top Gear episode where they engaged in car football.  It looked like a ton of fun and indeed it is.  The team Psyonix have joined up with the developers at Panic Button for this highly anticipated port.  Panic Button is most recently responsible for the excellent Doom port.  These two highly talented teams have once more worked their magic and produced something really special here in Rocket League for the Nintendo Switch. For those who have yet to play this hybrid sports game, players race around and use their high octane rides to knock a huge soccer ball across…

Gear.Club Unlimited Review (Nintendo Switch)

Gear.Club Unlimited Review (Nintendo Switch)

The Nintendo Switch finally gets an excellent arcade racer in the form of Gear.Club Unlimited by Microïds and Eden Games. This was first a mobile game. When I found this out, I was envisioning every super car parked behind a paywall of some sort. I’m happy to report that is not the case here and all the content, tracks and cars are fully unlocked. With all the disastrous decisions made with microtransactions in gaming lately, this was a very wise move by Microïds to give players the full experience without any catches. Gear.Club Unlimited is the first game on the Switch to feature licensed cars. The vehicle roster includes the McLaren 675LT, Mercedes-AMG GT S, Nissan GTR Nismo, Ruf CTR 3, Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport…

Road Rage Review (Xbox One X)

One of my favorite series on the Sega Genesis was Road Rash.  Upon hearing that a similar premised title called Road Rage was coming out on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, I was quite excited to see what Team6 Game Studios had in store for gamers with this release. Players race and brawl their way through close to 100 missions in a city overrun by total anarchy.  It is surrounded by a wall to keep those inside it trapped, plus to keep people outside it from getting in.  The entire town of Ashen is now mostly inhabited by rival gangs looking to stake their claim on every corner.  I’m not sure if it was intentional, but the beginning intro made me laugh.  You’re…

RIVE: Ultimate Edition Review (Nintendo Switch)

The Nintendo Switch keeps the unique experiences coming with RIVE: Ultimate Edition.  It has already been released on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 in 2016.  Originally planned for a debut on the Wii U, it was eventually delayed and saved for a spot on the Switch.  While I’m sure many Wii U owners were disappointed, this was  the best move as the new platform allowed for the best port out there.  It even exceeded the PlayStation 4 in overall performance, delivering 60 frames per second at 1080P.  Quite an impressive accomplishment, no doubt thanks to a lot of hard work and fine tuning by developers Two Tribes and Engine Software.     RIVE is a twin-stick shooter where players pilot a starship through a…

Doom Review (Nintendo Switch)

2017 has been quite the year for gamers and an absolutely incredible time for Nintendo.  Bethesda and Panic Button has brought the FPS giant Doom to the Nintendo Switch against all odds.  First off, it’s great to see Bethesda and Nintendo working with each other again.  The gaming community hasn’t seen a Doom release for Nintendo since the N64 era.  Secondly, the fact that this is all running on a portable system powered by a Nvidia Tegra X1 GPU is simply hard to believe.  The team at Panic Button have crafted some serious voodoo here to pull this off and it’s wildly impressive.     For those new to this release, players take the role of a marine that’s sole purpose is to defeat the…

All-Star Fruit Racing Review (PC) – Early Access

2017 has been huge for racing fans. 3DClouds has created one of the most colorful arcade racers this year. It’s full of character and personality. The spin on this kart racer is to infuse fruit into the rides, power-ups and every race track. The result is surprisingly impressive. Upon first glimpse, you will no doubt be reminded of Mario Kart’s charm here. The level of content and tracks aren’t comparable, but the overall presentation in All-Star Fruit Racing is certainly high quality. The level of polish and detail surprised me with it being an early access release. The striking visuals are outstanding and will no doubt be the first thing you notice in All-Star Fruit Racing. The artwork that has been created here is…

Call of Duty: WWII Review (PS4 Pro)

Call of Duty: WWII is switching things up with departing from the series more recent focus on futuristic warfare.  I still vividly remember picking up Call of Duty 2 for the PC 12 years ago and maxing the game out on my rig.  I was blown away with the attention to detail, the sound and overall presentation at that time.  It was a thrilling experience back in 2005 and now Call of Duty: WWII is once again providing hours of entertainment with its fantastic visuals, storyline, multiplayer options and cinematic gameplay.     Players start the campaign storming the beaches at Normandy, the largest seaborne invasion in history.  Gamers take the role of Daniels, a Private in the First Infantry Division nicknamed “Red”.  Daniels engages in…

The Mummy Demastered Review (Nintendo Switch)

WayForward has created a Metroidvania style shooter with The Mummy Demastered.  If you watched the film and are thinking this game is a quick cash grab, I’m happy to say it certainly isn’t one.  It’s actually a great 2D side-scroller with graphical and gameplay traits that remind me of some iconic classics like Contra, Ghosts n’ Goblins, and Castlevania. The story in The Mummy Demastered does not follow the movie.  WayForward wrote their own tale here and that is for the best as the film pretty much bombed at the box office.  Players take the role of a soldier from Prodigium.  It’s your job to locate and put an end to the mummy, Princess Ahmanet.  You’ve been sent in to locate other team members from Prodigium, assess their condition and…

Knight Terrors Review (Nintendo Switch)

Knight Terrors is a digital only endless runner developed by FreakZone Games that is exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. It seems like a great fit for this platform and is targeting gamers who have a taste for retro inspired games. It’s published by Nicalis (The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth & Rebirth) and is certainly budget friendly at only $3. The game launches with some fantastic music that takes you back to the 8-bit era of gaming. It also has a Ghouls ‘n Ghosts look to it. Players literally hit the ground running. The knight sprints on his own through each level, leaving you responsible for jumping, flying and swinging your sword and weapons. Your knight has wings which allows players to leap over obstacles and…
