Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Review (Xbox One X)

The Ace Combat series from Bandai Namco first hit the scene back in 1995. Since then, over a dozen games have released across multiple consoles, mobile devices and handhelds. They have always been the pinnacle of jet fighter simulators and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown keeps this tradition going. As a matter of fact, this might just be the finest combat simulator we have ever played.   The Story     The story for Skies Unknown sees a war between Osea and the Kingdom of Erusea. If used for vindictive purposes, it could create utter chaos across the land. Players take the role of…

Octahedron: Transfixed Edition Review (Nintendo Switch)

Octahedron: Transfixed Edition Review (Nintendo Switch)

Octahedron: Transfixed Edition is a rhythm platformer that oozes with stylistic colors and delivers a very unique, psychedelic presentation. The game opens up with a subtle cut scene, where the player is in a cabin and goes outside to investigate something. They are drawn to a strange light and object in the forest. After touching this colorful gem-like device suspended in the air, they are transported to a new neon infused world.  50 Handcrafted Levels   Each level is presented by a screen where players must successfully climb their way to the top of over 50 challenging levels. Second only to the wild visuals is the phenomenal BPM soundtrack that mixes incredibly well alongside the platforming.  I found myself cranking up the volume on our home…

Resident Evil 2 Review (Xbox One X)

Resident Evil 2 Review (Xbox One X) - Pixelated Gamer

Resident Evil paved the way for the now beloved genre Survival Horror. The gameplay was tense, atmospheric and simply thrilling to play. While Capcom somehow steered off in the wrong direction with Resident Evil 5 and 6, the last chapter brought the series back to its original terrifying roots, but in first person perspective. This Resident Evil 2 remake however brings back the classic third person perspective and all the terror this franchise is famous for.  Prepare yourself   A few things can be guaranteed in regards to playing Resident Evil 2. Modern Combat Blackout Review (Nintendo Switch)

Modern Combat Blackout Review (Nintendo Switch) - Pixelated Gamer

Overview   Modern Combat Blackout is the latest release of the long running Modern Combat series. Originally released as Modern Combat 5: Blackout in 2014 by Gameloft Bucharest for mobile as a Free-To-Play title riddled with microtransactions, it fortunately makes the leap to the Nintendo Switch by Gameloft Mexico unencumbered from this model.   Basic Training     When I first got a review code for this game, the name of the series struck me familiar. Years before I had downloaded the first two games in the series on my new iPad, I appreciated them but it was never for me due to the reliance on touch controls. Gladly, the series is now on Switch and with that I can play using my trusty Pro…
