All-Star Fruit Racing Review (PC) – Early Access

2017 has been huge for racing fans. 3DClouds has created one of the most colorful arcade racers this year. It’s full of character and personality. The spin on this kart racer is to infuse fruit into the rides, power-ups and every race track. The result is surprisingly impressive.

Upon first glimpse, you will no doubt be reminded of Mario Kart’s charm here. The level of content and tracks aren’t comparable, but the overall presentation in All-Star Fruit Racing is certainly high quality. The level of polish and detail surprised me with it being an early access release. The striking visuals are outstanding and will no doubt be the first thing you notice in All-Star Fruit Racing. The artwork that has been created here is just fantastic. The use of colors and cleverly designed levels are both fun to look at and most importantly a blast to race through. The game presently consists of 4 brightly animated islands with 4 tracks each. The final game will give players 5 islands and a total of 21 tracks.

The controls are already pretty solid, making it an easy title to pick up and play for a wide variety of gamers. That’s not to say it’s not challenging though. It took me a few play-throughs to get first and the AI is fairly aggressive in not giving up positions without a good fight. There is a helpful tutorial to get players up to speed on the unique power-ups. Each kart has a juicer that is comprised of 4 separate tanks. As you race through each course, you’ll be able to get items along the way that fill up these reservoirs. Once any of them are topped off, you now can hit the corresponding button to activate it. These specials can range from speed bursts, the ability to launch fruit at your opponents or even direct mini-tornados to take out racers ahead of you. Each driver has their own Mega-Juice power-up as well (11 are available to choose from in this build and 22 will make the roster in the final release). Having multiple abilities at your disposal is a lot of fun and implements more strategy in to each race.  Local multiplayer with up to four racers is available and Online play will be available soon.

All-Star Fruit Racing has some serious potential with its colorful kart racer. The track designs, controls and presentation are all quite impressive for an Early Access build. The online aspect will be a huge factor in whether or not 3DClouds will have a huge hit on their hands. It already has the makings of a great racer, and I’m highly optimistic for the final release.  It has a lot of appealing features and the vibrant aesthetics are sure to get a lot of attention for those looking for an exciting kart racer.
